Who’s Involved?
Students in Chestnut Hill College's sports management event planning course (SPMA220) will be organizing, coordinating, and executing all aspects of this event. The College’s Student Government Association (SGA) and Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) have also pledged their commitment and support toward fundraising efforts, volunteering, and other aspects related to this event.
Why Attend?
Heroes on the Hill 5K race participants and carnival attendees will be contributing to two wonderful charities; Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Northern Delaware and Susquehanna Valley and Our Mother of Sorrows/St. Ignatius of Loyola (an Independence Mission School). The Heroes on the Hill 5K Event Planning Team intend to make this 5K race and carnival an annual event that students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members will look forward to attending and supporting each year.
CHC’s Dear Neighbor Mission
It is also important that the Heroes on the Hill event coincides with CHC's Dear Neighbor mission. The mission of the college is dedicated to serving the Dear Neighbor of student, faculty, staff, the surrounding community, as well as our global neighbors, without distinction and with love. Father Medaille, founder of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph, asked the Sisters, as they surveyed the streets, to find the needs of the dear neighbor and to ‘circle the city with love”.

Make-A-Wish® Philadelphia, Northern Delaware & Susquehanna Valley is proud to serve 11 counties within southeastern Pennsylvania that are Bucks, Chester, Cumberland, Delaware, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Montgomery, Perry and Philadelphia along with New Castle county in northern Delaware. Fulfilling a child's wish provides a joyful and meaningful experience that benefits both the child and the family. The chapter is funded by donations from individuals, corporations, schools and community groups. THE MISSION Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. This one belief guides the chapter in everything they do at Make-A-Wish®. It inspires them to grant wishes that change the lives of the kids they serve. It compels them to be creative in exceeding the expectations of every wish kid. It drives them to make the donated resources go as far as possible. Most of all, it's the founding principle of their vision to grant the wish of every eligible child. Wishes are more than just a nice thing. And they are far more than gifts, or singular events in time. Wishes impact everyone involved - wish kids, volunteers, donors, sponsors, medical professionals and communities. The impact varies. For wish kids, just the act of making their wish come true can give them the courage to comply with their medical treatments. Parents might finally feel like they can be optimistic. And still others might realize all they have to offer the world through volunteer work or philanthropy. Whatever the odds, whatever the obstacles ... wishes find a way to make the world better. |
